Receiving an overwhelming response from Gladstone Observer readers, the region’s cutest babies competition unfolded as an epic week-long event.
After a tie-breaking extension, this year’s winner emerged with only a few votes between them and the runner up.
Stealing hearts across the region, more than 30 gorgeous bubs were nominated for the cutest baby, with five standing out among the rest, as voted by the readers.
#1 Lockiah Gale
With 20% of the votes, Lockiah Gale claimed the title of Gladstone’s cutest baby for 2023, after a head on battle with runner up, Rosaleigh Law.
His mum, Alyssa-Jane Gale was thrilled to hear the news that her beautiful boy had received the title.
“Super happy to hear the news, winner or not!” she said.
“He still lights up my life with that cheeky smile.”
Born on February 16, 2023, Lockiah was named after the football player, Darren Lockyer, who is his father is a massive fan of.
“Lockiah is definitely a mummy’s boy,” Alyssa-Jane said.
But he is also so loved by his big sister Penelope who he already loves stirring up.”
Described as a mischief maker and all around happy boy, with a contagious smile, Lockiah has melted the hearts of the region.
“He is an openly affectionate little fella whose loves nothing more than to smile, giggle and gives the best snuggles,” she said.
“If you were to meet Lockiah, you’d be in awe of the way he looks into your eyes with his ‘big’ smile followed by a warm hug.”
#2 Rosaleigh Law
Missing first place narrowly, with only few votes between them, Rosaleigh Law has secured second place for the region’s cutest baby of 2023.
Eight month old, Rosaleigh was notably in the lead for most of the poll, before going head to head with Lockiah during the last few days.
Nominated by her mum, Kaitlin Tremain, Rosaleigh is her mum and dad’s (Akeem Law) little princess.
“She is the most happiest bubbliest baby ever,” Kaitlin said.
“Title or no title she is the cutest baby to us.”

#3 Zion Simbiken
Coming in third with 10% of the votes, Zion Simbiken is adored by many for his contagious smile and happy personality.
“He is is the happiest boy; he always has a smile on his face no matter what,” his mum, Jasmin Josefski said.
#4 Tanna Elizabeth Eggmolesse
Receiving 8% of the votes, Tanna Elizabeth Eggmolesse has claimed fourth place.
Nominated by her mother, Emily Grace Hurst, Tanna is described as being the cutest chunkiest baby, with the funniest personality and a love for the baby shark song.
“Tanna is the cutest chunkiest baby you have ever seen!” she said.
“She loves everyone and will smile for anyone.”
#5 Marshall Oliver Leeke
Securing fifth place, with 6% of the votes was two month old Marshall Oliver Leeks from Boyne Island.
Nominated more than seven times, Marshall Oliver Leeks was arguably the most nominated baby in the callout.
His mum, Matika Frid Marshall— who was one of many people that nominated him — described her son as a healthy and happy little bub, who is a quick learner often copying his parent’s mouth movements.
“We are blessed to have him,” she said.
“Whether or not he gets it I will always think that he is the cutest baby.”
As well as his mum and dad, his grandparents and many other family members all joined in and cheered him on in the comments.
“He’s so damn handsome and cute, just look at him,” his grandfather, Terry Ogilvie said.
“He makes you melt every time you see his little face …. one proud grandfather here.”
“He has soooo much personality for young baby,” his great grandmother, Louise Jounquay added.
“Marshall is so happy and so smiley he fills a room with joy! Hands down the cutest baby in Cq,” Jessica Brown also added.
