Last minute court hearing for Biloela asylum seekers today

FRIENDS of Biloela couple Priya and Nades are terrified the couple and their two daughters could be deported back to Sri Lanka this afternoon.

Despite flooding Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton's emails, Facebook and office phone with pleas for the family's release, the Australian Border Force issued them a deportation notice on Friday night.

The family's case will be heard in court again today.

Priya and Nades' lawyers secured today's court hearing in a bid to secure more time in Australia to lodge an appeal against their case being rejected in the Federal Circuit Court last Thursday.

They were originally given 21 days to appeal the decision, but the deportation notice was handed just one day later.

The couple has been detained at Melbourne's Broadmeadows Detention Centre for more than 100 days with their daughters Kopika, 3, and Tharunicaa, 1, accused of not meeting Australia's immigration obligations.

Nadesalingam and Priya have lives in Australia since 2012 and 2013, respectively.

Standing outside Member for Flynn Ken O'Dowd's office on Saturday, Angela Fredericks said she was sickened by the Australian Government's approach to the family's case.

She believed the notice being dealt on Friday night was done on purpose to make it difficult for Priya and Nades to gather their defence.

"We spoke to Priya on Friday night after they found out about the deportation notice and she was just sobbing and saying please help my babies. What can you say to that?"

Ms Fredericks said if the family is deported back to Sri Lanka their daughters will be stateless because they were born in Australia.

Overnight a candlelight vigil was held at Biloela in support of the family.

Ms Fredericks has also started a petition calling on Qantas and other airlines not to let M Dutton use their aircrafts, pilot of crew, to force the family from Australia.

A Department of Home Affairs spokesperson said years of comprehensive assessment by the Department, tribunals and courts found that the family consistently did not meet Australia's protection obligations.
