If Mick Fanning can do it, so can I: Agnes Water beach-goer

Swimmers have been warned of a couple of sharks off main beach at Agnes Water

UPDATE:

MUM Tamara Duff spent the weekend at Agnes Water while her two sons Elijah, 11 and Caelan, 8 learned to surf.

She was shocked to hear sharks had been spotted at the beach where they had spent all Saturday swimming.

"It's always in the back of your mind because you're in their habitat and their territory," Ms Duff.

"I still feel safe though. I figure if Mick Fanning can punch a shark in the face and still surf I am sure I can keep swimming after this.

"I love the beach and you're never going to stop doing what you love because of fear."

Surf Life Saving Queensland says they will be keeping a close watch on Agnes Water Main Beach in the next few days.

There are already two lifeguards on the beach every day for the six week period over Christmas from 8am to 6pm.

Life Guard supervisor Julie Davis said swimmers shouldn't hesitate to notify life guards if they think they see a shark.

"Prevention is always better than a cure. Notify lifeguards and they will take the proper precautions," Ms Davis said.

Ms Davis also took the opportunity to remind swimmers to stay between the flags saying "we can't save you is we can't see you."

UPDATE 12pm

AGNES Water Main Beach was closed this morning after two sharks were spotted off the shore.

The lifeguard announced swimmers should stay out of the water around 10.30am and erected red flags warning beach goers of the danger.

There are schools of bait fish just off the beach which has likely drawn the sharks to the area.

The lifeguard on patrol has been heading out on a jet ski every hour to check if the sharks are still in there area or if the beach can be re-opened.

Life Guard supervisor Julie Davis said closing the beach was the usual procedure if shark fins are spotted.

"Public safety is the most important for us and that's why the beach has been closed," Ms Davis said.

If the sharks leave the area the beach will most likely be re-opened.
