An alarming number of traffic offenders including drug-drivers and drink-drivers appeared in Gladstone Magistrates Court last week.

We reveal five offenders who pleaded guilty, including one woman who was dobbed in by neighbours for driving while intoxicated and how she responded when police arrived led to further charges.

Nicholas Charles Adnum

A drunk Gladstone father who decided to drive his vehicle in the early hours claims he did so to avoid an escalating fight with a woman after drinking and playing video games all day.

Nicholas Charles Adnum was intercepted by police about 2.50am on Kirkwood Rd before blowing more than three times over, recording a BAC of 0.162.

Adnum pleaded guilty to his offending when he faced Gladstone Magistrates Court. He was handed a $1200 fine and suspended from driving for nine months.

Police prosecutor Jennifer Leach told the court police were called about 1.30am in relation to an alleged drunk-driver in the area before police located him.

Wanda Terese Nicholson

A bitter neighbourhood feud has been revealed as the catalyst for a woman being charged with drink-driving.

Wanda Terese Nicholson blew 0.195, hours after she stopped driving her vehicle, following a tip-off from neighbours to police.

The court heard police attended Nicholson’s property on October 9 with reasonable suspicion she had been driving her vehicle while intoxicated.

Nicholson complied with police and showed them her vehicle which had rain on it and the engine was still warm before admitting to driving the vehicle.

As part of her bail conditions, Nicholson was not allowed to speak to her neighbours but she was charged the following day for breaching those orders.

Acting magistrate Mary Buchanan ordered Nicholson to pay a $1200 fine for drink driving and a further $800 for the public nuisance and obstruct police charges.

She was suspended from driving for a further 8 months, having already been suspended for three.

Harley John Ahern

A Gladstone man who was intercepted by police less than 10 minutes after consuming his last drink blew just under double the legal limit.

Harley John Ahern told police he had only consumed two VB tinnies but no sleep and a lack of food had contributed to him blowing 0.99.

Police intercepted Ahern on Hanson Rd, Callemondah about 2.45pm on November 21 before requesting a sample of breath.

Acting magistrate Mary Buchanan fined Ahern $600 (referred to SPER) and suspended him from driving for one month.

Kiara Kym Hodges

A self-employed Gladstone woman regretted offering a community elder a lift into town after a roadside drug test detected traces of meth and cannabis.

Kiara Kym Hodges was fined and suspended from driving after she was intercepted by police at Yarroon St, Gladstone on November 4 before admitting to smoking cannabis earlier that day.

A Queensland Health forensics lab detected traces of methamphetamine and Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) upon further investigations.

Hodges told the court she was remorseful and just wanted to help an elder in the community who asked for a lift, but accepted it was the wrong decision.

Hodges was fined $300 and suspended from driving for a month.

Joel Bennett-Wood

A Gladstone P-plater did not think there was any alcohol in his system while approaching an RBT, which resulted in a license suspension and fine.

Joel Bennett-Wood was pulled over on the Dawson Hwy at Kin Kora about 9pm on November 26 when he was subject to a random breath test.

The 20 year old said he had consumed one drink hours before driving and told the court he did not think he would blow over the limit.

However, Bennett-Wood blew .049, which would be under the limit of an open-licence holder but well above the legal requirement of 0.00 for provisional licence holders.

Acting Magistrate Mary Buchanan fined him $400 and disqualified him from obtaining a licence for three months.
