Tea, treats and tunes kicked off Gladstone’s Biggest Morning Tea as locals gathered in solidarity against cancer at the Wallabies Rugby League Clubhouse on Thursday.
The event was attended by more than 100 people including special guests Gladstone MP and Regional Development Minister, Glenn Butcher and former long serving Gladstone state MP, Liz Cunningham, in support of finding a cure.
Belinda Watson, Cancer Council Queensland community coordinator, said she was overjoyed with this year’s engagement and turnout.
“The event sold out two weeks before and we’ve surprisingly had multiple walk-ins which is wonderful to see,” she said.
“At this stage we’ve got 230 morning tea’s happening across the entire Central Queensland Region.
“It’s very impressive and Gladstone is one of the first to kick off the fundraising across the state.
“Covid sadly put the event on hold in recent years but the community and a dedicated group of ladies have worked hard to restore it.”
Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea has been running for 29 years and will continue to set the bar for success, raising more than $2m to help Queenslanders affected by cancer.
Throughout the months of May and June, Cancer Council Queensland hope to see more than 5000 morning tea’s hosted statewide in order to raise a generous amount of funding to contribute towards the state‘s research, prevention, advocacy and support programs.
