Stage two refurbishments of the Gladstone Aquatic Centre are wrapping up as arrangements for the final phase of developments prepare to get underway.

Gladstone Regional Council first commenced the initial stages of the Gladstone Aquatic Centre Rejuvenation Project in August of 2020.

The project has since spanned over consecutive years to avoid closure of the pool and minimise disruption to swimmers.

Recent upgrades of the Aquatic Centre include a revamp of the main entrance, improved roofing structures and better public amenity facilities provided for families and disability patrons.

The State Government has funded $2.4 million into the final stage of the project in support of the Works for Queensland Program.

This funding program has assisted with the restoration of jobs in Gladstone and supported the local economy in its recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

This contribution will allow for the 25m and 50m pools to be retiled, along with upgraded heating installations and a modernisation of the indoor pool infrastructure.

Gladstone region Councillor Darryl Branthwaite is confident the venue enhancements will “deliver a new and improved facility for the region”.

“It’s fantastic that we’ve been able to receive funding support from both the State and Australian Governments to undertake these upgrades”, Mr Branthwaite said.

“This is another example of all three levels of government working together to deliver a facility that will benefit people for many more years to come.”
