A home salon turned thriving business has been crowned Gladstone’s best hairdressers, thanks to its owner and only stylist, Lynette Rogers.

Mrs Rogers opened Simply Hairlicious Hair Salon in the downstairs area of her home in 2014, and has since moved into a salon in January last year.

Starting her hairdressing career straight out of high school, Mrs Rogers always knew she wanted to be a hairdresser and has spent the last 22 years in the industry.

“I love doing hair, its my passion, always has and always will be,” she said.

“It’s not very often you can go to work and enjoy it all the time.”

Originally from Blackall, Queensland, Mrs Rogers moved around a lot between Maryborough, Rockhampton, Cairns and the Sunshine Coast, before finally planting her roots in Gladstone.

“I started my apprenticeship in Rockhampton with Stefans, and then transferred to a store in Maroochydore,” she said.

After finishing her certification, she worked at a Sunshine Coast salon called, Motor Fusion before moving up to Gladstone where she stated working the former salon, Dark angel for a couple of years, and had a short stint at Cougars before going out on her own.

Married with three children (between 17 and 13 years old), Mrs Rogers decided to open her home business due to the convenience it offered during her children’s earlier years.

“I’ve come out to the salon because I’ve wanted to separate my home from work and to expand my business,” Mrs Rogers said.

With a loyal client base of around 110, many of which have been long term clients from as far back as the business’s opening, a lot of Mrs Rogers clients have turned into her friends.

“I get see all their milestones; they graduate, I do their hair; they get married, I do their hair; they have kids; I do their kids and babies hair.”

For most of the poll, Lynette Rogers was going head to head with Melanie Baines from Colour me Mel, until finally securing the top spot with 2 per cent between them.

“I have amazing clients, they support me 100 per cent,” she said.

“I had several messages saying I voted for you, which is lovely,” she said.

A relaxed salon without the hustle and bustle, Mr Rogers prides herself in making sure the salon is soothing and is an escape from their lives.

“People come here to forget about their lives,” she said.

“Because I do a lot of one-on-one clientele, I am able to make it all about them.”

Mrs Roger said that her clients feedback usually consists on how lovely their hair looks and feels, and how much they love her head massages.

Now that she has expanded her salon, Mrs Rogers is looking to expand her team and find another stylist to work alongside her.

She has also expressed hope that she will be able to train apprentices at her salon in the future.
As well as being crowned Gladstone’s best hairdresser for 2023, Mrs Rogers came runner up in the Wedding Industry Awards for the Capricorn Coast and Central Queensland last month and has recently been nominated in the top 25 for Best in Business Gladstone.
