The MS Swimathon is returning to Rockhampton and Gladstone in 2021 with locals encouraged to take part

“We’re certain we will see more great support here in Central Queensland.”

Registrations have opened for a 12-hour swimming relay being held in both Rockhampton and Gladstone which raises funds for a good cause.

MS Queensland is excited to bring the MS Swimathon back to Central Queensland to support the almost 4,000 Queenslanders living with the disease.

MS Queensland executive general manager Daniel Lalor said it was a tremendous feeling to welcome the event back to the Rockhampton and Gladstone areas.

“It’s such an important day for those living with MS to see the incredible support of the community and have fun with family and friends,” Mr Lalor.

“We’ve had outstanding support from the communities where we hosted our first four MS Swimathon events in 2021 and raised over $158,000.

“We’re certain we’ll see more great support here in Central Queensland.

“All funds raised will help MS Queensland provide vital MS services like physiotherapy, exercise therapy, counselling, service co-ordination, phone line and nursing support.”

The 2021 MS Swimathon will be the ninth for Rockhampton local Rachel Kerr, who lives with MS.

“I love seeing everyone turn out to support locals living with MS, there’s always so many wonderful familiar faces helping us fundraise,” Ms Kerr said.

“You don’t have to be a good swimmer, so many people are hesitant to join because they’re not a competitive swimmer.”

The Rockhampton Swimathon will be held on October 9, 2021 with the Gladstone event to follow on October 31.

To celebrate the launch, participants can save 60 per cent on their entry for the first 24 hours.
