Member for Callide Colin Boyce will take a stand against Voluntary Assisted Dying when the bill is debated in parliament later this year.
Mr Boyce said he would not support the bill and would speak against it when the time came.
“I support the AMA’s position for the preservation of life,” Mr Boyce said.
“Every day in Australia seven men and two women commit suicide.
“Rural men are five times more likely to commit suicide than their metropolitan counterparts.
“Not enough is being done to address this growing problem yet here we are proposing legal voluntary suicide.”
Mr Boyce quoted American Bishop Fulton J Sheen for his stance against the controversial topic.
“‘Moral principles do not depend on a majority vote. Wrong is wrong, even if everybody is wrong. Right is right, even if nobody is right’,” he said.
