Development application: Total Tools lodges plans for Yarroon Street, Gladstone

Gladstone locals should be excited to know that Australia’s largest trade tool supplier has plans to open in the city. Here’s the latest.

Proposals for a new mega hardware and trade supplies store in Gladstone have been finalised after the regional council approved Hutchings O’Brien Pty Ltd’s development plans to establish a Total Tools store in town.

Locals will soon see the store come to life on the currently vacant segment of land located on the corner of Yarroon Street and Hanson Road.

Total Tools will form part of the wider commercial precinct, neighbouring the already present United Service Station and McDonald’s across from the PCYC.

The 4,358 sqm site would have a 9.5m tall building.

Hutchings O’Brien Pty Ltd seek to establish 34 additional ancillary carparking areas, a loading bay and complementary landscaping in future developments.

Plans, which were first lodged with Gladstone Regional Council in late 2021, showed the store would operate between 6am and 9pm, seven days a week as both the United Service Station and McDonald’s operate 24 hours a day.

A specialist report also noted parts of the site along Yarroon St and Hanson rd would be kept vacant to allow for possible future TMR resumption.

“The proposed development will share an access from Glenlyon Street with the newly constructed service station to the south,” the report read.

The development was approved in full on June 20, 2022.
