A MOTHER has broken her silence and spoken about the devastating moment she was told that a boy had been found on top of her preschool-aged daughter at a weekend barbecue.

A CABOOLTURE mother has been left devastated after her four-year-old daughter was sexually assaulted by a nine-year-old boy who lived nearby.

The mum, who The Courier-Mail has chosen not to name, said the boy’s father found his son on top of the preschool-aged girl, at a weekend barbecue in July.

“(The boy) admitted to trying to put his doodle in her, and said (my daughter) had wanted to go but he wouldn’t let her leave,” she said.

Since the incident three months ago, the mother of four said her second youngest child had experienced nightmares and had become clingy.

“We received a referral to counselling, but the doctor from the Caboolture sexual assault clinic said talking about it runs the risk of making it more real for her,” she said. “So we just have to be really watchful of any changes in behaviours.”

The mum feels let down by local police who, she said, took 10 days to interview the boy and his father.

Police have now told the mother that the boy has received behavioural counselling, but she is nevertheless thinking of moving elsewhere with her young family.

In Australia, children under the age of 10 cannot be charged with criminal offences because they are deemed too young to be held responsible for their actions.
