Upgrades to a section of the Warrego Highway have caused larger disruptions than expected, with many motorists taking to social media about the delays.
Planned $4.8 million upgrades along the westbound lanes of the Warrego Highway at Minden are creating bank-ups of traffic, stretching back to the Marburg exit.
A transport department spokesman told the Gatton Star the works were initially scheduled for night, but due to unsuitable ground conditions, excavation was deeper than intended.
As a result, westbound commuters are restricted to one lane from the Minden range.
One Facebook user write in the Lockyer Valley and Surrounds Traffic Report Facebook group that traffic was moving very slowly, while another commented that Minden Hill, just before Barb’s Kitchen was “rooted in the roadworks”.
“Going to be good when it’s finished. A bit of pain for the gain,” one Facebook user wrote.
“Another post says that an oversized truck is stuck in the single lane at the roadworks and they don’t know how it is going to get through,” another person wrote.
Due to safety requirements for operating heavy machinery next to the Warrego Highway, working hours and lane closures have been extended to include day works, a TMR spokesman said.
Current day works are expected to be completed by this Friday, with the remaining works scheduled for completion at the end of the month.
The transport department said it notified residents in the Minden and surrounding communities earlier this month.
TMR sent a letter to residents, stating that work timeframes had been extended and warned that during the construction period nearby residents may experience noise, light, dust and vibration.
The works are part of the National Network Rehabilitation funding program.
