A car stolen driven into a lagoon by teens sparked a massive rescue response with a swift water rescue team called in as well as police divers from Brisbane

Police have arrested two boys, aged 14 and 17, after they allegedly stole a HiLux from a Drayton property and drove it into the Narda Lagoon at Laidley.

Emergency services were called to the lagoon after witnesses observed the vehicle entering the water about 5.30am on Sunday.

A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said three crews attended, including a swift water rescue team.

They did an initial search but were unable to confirm if anyone was still inside the submerged ute.

Police divers from Brisbane arrived several hours later and assisted with the search and retrieval operation.

Meanwhile investigators confirmed the vehicle had been stolen from a Drayton address on Saturday night

They located one boy at the scene and arrested the second a short time later.

A 17-year-old Laidley boy has been charged with two offences including one charge each of entering premises and committing an indictable offence and one charge of unlawful use of motor vehicle.

He appeared in court yesterday, November 11 and has been remanded in custody, to appear on December 2.

A 14-year-old Gatton boy has been charged with one charge of entering premises and committing an indictable offence and one charge of unlawful use of motor vehicle, to appear in Gatton Childrens Court on November 13.

Investigations are continuing.
