Queensland’s iconic seafood family, the Gambaros, are counting down the days until they launch the next chapter in their hospitality empire, with the opening of two new venues.

The clan, known for Brisbane institution Gambaro Seafood Restaurant, as well as Black Hide Steakhouses and Persone, will lift the lid on a beachside cafe and Mediterranean-inspired restaurant in the burgeoning suburb of Coolangatta on the Gold Coast next month.

Positioned over two levels in the new $42m, 12-storey Awaken Residences, Awaken Cafe and Pipi’s will have direct ocean vistas, overlooking Point Danger parklands, Carlin Family Park and the Lovers Rock Park.

“These restaurants boast an unparalleled view, combined with the service and quality of the Gambaro Group, both Pipi’s and Awaken Cafe will be the next must-experience destination on the coastline,” said John Gambaro.

Awaken Cafe will be on the ground floor of the development and specialise in health-conscious options like salads and gourmet sandwiches, as well as bakery items, such as pastries, doughnuts and croissants paired with fresh juices and coffee.

“The focus is on locally grown, sustainable products prepared simply, without being overshadowed by excessive sauces,” Mr Gambaro said.

“The menu is well-balanced, featuring dishes where you can distinctly taste all the flavours.”

Meanwhile, Pipi’s will be an elegant yet approachable 90-100-seat restaurant with the food taking inspiration from the coastal regions of Spain, Italy and France.

Diners can expect everything from freshly shucked oysters or steak cooked on a Josper grill in the open kitchen, to Instagram-worthy seafood platters.

“We are passionate about embracing the health-conscious principles of Mediterranean cuisine, creating dishes that are both simple and amazing, promoting a wholesome approach to eating,” Mr Gambaro said.

Pipi’s is also tipped to become a hotspot for functions with a private dining room, as well as the ability to divide the restaurant for events, such as weddings, birthdays corporate dos and more.

Awaken Cafe and Pipi’s are aiming to open mid-February.
