GALE force winds and dangerous surf will continue in southeast Queensland today as the remnants of Tropical Cyclone Debbie move offshore.
The worst of the rain should clear today but 40km/h winds in Brisbane and 100km/h off the coast will continue before sunny weather tomorrow.
Ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie is expected to remain a significant low pressure system as it moves off the coast this morning and will continue to batter the east coast with large surf from the Sunshine Coast to the NSW border.
It is then expected to move further east tomorrow, bringing mostly sunny conditions, with a slight chance of isolated showers for residents from Bowen to the Gold Coast.
More rain is expected in the coming weeks, however, with the weather bureau predicting a wetter than normal April.
In its latest weather update the Bureau of Meteorology said April to June rainfall was likely to be below average over the southern two-thirds of mainland Australia excluding the east coast, and above average for the far north.
“April is likely to be drier than average across the south and southwest of Australia, but wetter for eastern NSW, southeast Queensland and far northern Australia,’’ the forecast said.
