Hundreds of job-seekers have applied in a matter of days to work at Brisbane’s Queen’s Wharf precinct, lured by the prospect of being part of something new and the promise of free staff meals.

Website traffic to the $3.6 billion integrated resort’s online careers page surged 400 per cent in 24 hours after the recruitment drive launched in The Courier-Mail on Wednesday.

Queen’s Wharf is looking to fill about a thousand hospitality, retail, gaming, security, IT, managerial and other roles ahead of its staged opening later this year.

The online expression of interest period will run until January 29 and applicants will be updated before the formal recruitment process begins.

The new roles will be in addition to the 1400 workers that will move from Treasury Brisbane to Queen’s Wharf.

Curiously, the most-sought after position has been hotel reception, followed by administration support, food and beverage, leadership positions and games dealers.

The Star Entertainment Group’s chief operating officer Brisbane Kelvin Dodt said he was “thrilled with the overwhelming response”.

“It has shown there’s so many people out there who recognise just how special Queen’s Wharf Brisbane is going to be and the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity it will be to be part of it from the beginning,” he said.

“We are opening a brand new state-of-the-art tourism and entertainment precinct in the heart of the city with new hotels, 50 plus bars and restaurants, retail, arts and culture offerings so the opportunities are wide ranging.

“This riverside tourism precinct will change the face of Brisbane and will put the city and state on the world map with nine years until the 2032 Games.”

Queen’s Wharf is offering numerous staff benefits, including free meals once a day, discounts in its restaurants, bars and hotels, and health and wellbeing initiatives such as 16 weeks paid parental leave.

Mr Dodt said the majority of applications had come from Queenslanders, but there was interest from interstate and around the world.

“We’ve already received hundreds of full applications with interested Brisbanites starting to confirm their expression of interest within an hour of The Courier-Mail story appearing,” he said.

“What’s also really exciting is that we’ve seen a massive 400 per cent increase in traffic to our careers web page. Hopefully many more of those people curious about the opportunity will also be lodging formal expressions of interest.

“We’re delighted that more than 125 of the completed applications are from Brisbane. But we’re not surprised to see people from interstate, including WA, apply for roles. We have even seen people from overseas submit their interest.”
