A major recruitment blitz for Queen’s Wharf Brisbane is under way ahead of a staged opening of the new $3.6bn riverside precinct.

Thousands of roles will be available starting with an expressions of interest process launching on Wednesday, with recruiters promoting it as a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of something incredible”.

“Queen’s Wharf is a game-changing landmark for Brisbane that people who join the team will be able to tell their grandchildren: ‘I was there when it opened’,” The Star Entertainment Group’s chief operating officer Brisbane Kelvin Dodt said.

Free daily meals will be a benefit on offer to staff.

“The team member dining hub will be open 24/7 and will be the largest restaurant at our new home,” Mr Dodt said.

“Our wonderful chefs will prepare a wide range of meals from a hot breakfast featuring bacon and eggs, to lunch and dinner with a variety of dishes including healthy salads, stir fries, fish and pasta plus desserts and fruit throughout the day.

“The menu changes daily and will feature culturally-themed menus to celebrate special events like Lunar New Year, Easter and Christmas.”

As well as one free daily meal, staff will enjoy a range of discounts in various restaurants, bars and hotels, along with health and wellbeing initiatives such as 16 weeks paid parental leave.

The formal recruitment process will begin in the coming weeks. All new jobs will be in addition to the 1400 employees that will move from Treasury Brisbane to Queen’s Wharf when the staged opening starts in the second half of this year.

Since the build process began in 2017, more than 2000 construction jobs have been filled.

The next recruitment drive will seek to fill about 1000 hospitality jobs alone, including chefs, hotel reception staff and housekeeping, as well as professional services roles.

“We will have positions across all departments ranging from roles in our loading dock and warehouse to events and conferencing, surveillance and security, IT, marketing finance, management, legal and other specialist occupations,” Mr Dodt said.

“There will also be more than a thousand career opportunities just in food and beverage and our four hotels.

“For young school leavers interested in food and cooking we have an already established in-house culinary training program. This is supplemented by The Star Graduate program for tertiary graduates which are great pathways for career-building.

“We are very proud to have won awards over the past year recognising our commitment to gender equality, and commitment to creating diversity and inclusion, which in turn contributes to exceptional guest experience, so that tells you what we are looking for.

“Simply, anyone that loves working with people, is looking to start or progress their career and would love the chance to be part of something special. Queen’s Wharf will be that.”

Mr Dodt said there would be a priority on “Queensland jobs for Queenslanders”, including supporting local supply chain contracts.

“We know there has been a trend of people from interstate migrating to Queensland because of our wonderful lifestyle and opportunities so we are here to tell them, we want you,” he said.

But with low unemployment rates and a strain on talent across many industries, Mr Dodt said Queen’s Wharf would accept expressions of interest in all positions.

“We also want and will welcome applications from all cultures, ages, religions, genders, LGBTIQ+ people, and Australia’s First Nations Peoples,” he said.

Once open, the precinct will be home to four world-class hotels with about 1000 rooms. Queen’s Wharf will also have more than 50 restaurants, bars and cafes, luxury retail, cultural offerings, revamped riverfront space, gaming facilities and the iconic Sky Deck.

The Neville Bonner pedestrian bridge, currently under construction, will also connect Queen’s Wharf with South Bank.

“The Neville Bonner Bridge which, once open, lands on level four of the (Queen’s Wharf) precinct and funnels people straight into the retail and dining hubs not only at Queen’s Wharf but also the CBD,” Mr Dodt said.

“The precinct has for too long been an under-utilised section of the Brisbane River foreshore, so Queen’s Wharf will bring it to life especially with the preservation work we have undertaken with the heritage buildings within the precinct.

“This revitalised area will also be a connection point with the other river precincts of South Bank, Howard Smith Wharves and Riverside when complete.”
