A name for an arena at the Maryborough Showgrounds and Equestrian Park has been proposed, as council reach out for community feedback.
The campdraft arena could be named after local horseman and drafter Eb Lindley, who was said to be passionate about campdrafting, after the Fraser Coast Agriculture Show Society reached out to Councillor Paul Truscott with the idea.
The proposal follows the recent naming of the woodchop arena at the Showgrounds, which was named after local axeman and chainsaw racer Noel Hansen.
Cr Truscott said Eb, also known as Leon, was involved in events at the Fraser Coast Agricultural Show.
“(Eb was) a participant and chief ring steward – from the 1950s until his passing in the late 1970s,” Cr Truscott said.
“Eb was also involved as a volunteer getting the show ready each year and packing up at the end.
“He was well known as a skilled horseman and drafter across Central Queensland and it was also part of his earlier working life as a dairy farmer, property manager and drover at Yengarie.”
He had a horse named Teddy, who both resided in Maryborough from the 1950s, until Eb’s passing when he was 78 years old.
“Eb was also one of the founding members of the Maryborough Pony Club,” Cr Truscott said.
Council is now asking locals to give feedback on the proposed name, here, where a short online survey is open now until Tuesday, July 6.
