Disturbing footage has captured the moment a young man smashed his way into a Hervey Bay coffee shop with a metal pole, before ransacking the business.
Coffee Central on 7th at Urraween posted wild CCTV footage on social media of a break-in at the store on Wednesday evening, September 28.
At one point in the footage, the intruder can be seen giving the finger to the security camera.
Owner, Sara Lord said the man cut himself while breaking into the store and used a metal bar to smash the glass door.
He then began to vigorously search through every corner of the shop, going through ice machine filters, bins and even a medical kit.
“He ripped out my amplifier and all my speakers … threw that down the street,” Ms Lord said, adding her register and Eftpos machine were thrown across the room.
“He’s probably caused honestly about $13,000 worth of damage because that register alone was $8000.”
Ms Lord said her coffee shop had experienced about eight break-ins since it opened in 2014, and this was the third time in the last two years.
“It’s just become unfortunately the norm,” she said.
The call from staff to notify her of the break-in came in about 6.30am Thursday.
“I wasn’t even shocked when I got the phone call,” she said.
The last time Ms Lord’s shop was broken into was in 2021 when she was 41 weeks pregnant with her daughter.
“I’ve become numb because it’s happened too many times before.”
The cafe was closed on Thursday, September 29, while her staff cleaned the store.
Ms Lord said the break-in lasted about 15 minutes.
“He knew exactly where to look in all the places where people could possibly hide money,” she said.
Police were trying to identify the intruder on Saturday and nobody had been charged.
A Queensland Police spokesperson said the young man smashed the glass front door of the coffee shop with a metal pole and “conducted an untidy search before leaving empty handed”.
It is the latest among a string of devastating break-ins at local Hervey Bay businesses in recent months.
In August, Daisy’s Phone Repairs at Central Plaza and Bay Time & Engraving on Main St also suffered smashed windows and doors when their businesses were broken into.
Police are investigating whether any of the recent break-ins are linked.
