The close mate of a man allegedly killed in a one-punch incident has shared a heartbreaking tribute to his friend, telling of how much he would be missed by all who knew him.

Nathan Isaac McPherson, 43, died in the Royal Brisbane Hospital on Sunday after an altercation near the intersection of Kent and Richmond Streets in Maryborough about 2.30am on Saturday, August 19.

The father of six was taken to Hervey Bay Hospital before being transported to the Royal Brisbane with life-threatening injuries, later dying of those injuries.

Joshua Trevor Berrigan, 23, has been charged with unlawful striking causing death, with his matter mentioned in court on Wednesday.

Jamie Ferguson said Mr McPherson had been a mate to he and his family for more than 20 years.

“He’s a loving husband, father and hard worker who loved to socialise and just live life to the fullest whenever he had the chance,” Mr Ferguson said.

“I remember his and Carina’s wedding like it was yesterday.

“It was a beautiful day and night and a good time was had by everyone.

“I’ll miss the Friday nights he would come over for a few beers around the fire, talking about old times and just having a good laugh.

“We were never short of things to laugh about, that’s for sure.

“Until we meet again, rest easy bro.

“Taken way too soon, you will be sadly missed.

“You were just a hardworking dad letting your hair down for the night.”

A Go Fund Me page started to assist the family has already raised more than $1000.

Detective Inspector Gary Pettiford said Fraser Coast Regional Council CCTV footage had captured the incident in full.

He said it was believed the two men knew each other, but not well.

Police were investigating the possibility the men had been at a local pub before the altercation on the street.

Det Insp Pettiford described the family of Mr McPherson, including his partner and children, as “devastated”.
