A young father accused of throwing a punch that led to a man’s death has had his matter mentioned in court.
Joshua Trevor Berrigan, 23, was charged with unlawful striking causing death after the incident on the weekend.
His case was briefly mentioned before Maryborough Magistrates Court on Wednesday, August 23.
Nathan Isaac McPherson, 43, died in the Royal Brisbane Hospital on Sunday, August 20, after he was involved in an altercation near the intersection of Kent and Richmond Streets in Maryborough about 2.30am on Saturday, August 19.
Mr McPherson was taken to Hervey Bay Hospital before being transported to Brisbane with life-threatening injuries, later dying of those injuries.
The court heard a brief of evidence was being prepared, which would take about 10 weeks.
No application for bail was made and Mr Berrigan’s appearance was excused.
He is expected to make an application for bail at his next court appearance on October 31, 2023.
He has been remanded in custody until then.
