A man has been rushed to Brisbane by helicopter with multiple critical injuries after a shocking crash that left at least one other person with serious injuries and shut the Bruce Highway.

A man has been flown to Brisbane with critical injuries following a horror four-vehicle crash on the Bruce Highway at Maryborough, which also left three people trapped.

A 4WD towing a caravan, a two cars and a Woolworths delivery truck were all involved in the crash, which happened on the highway near the Alice St roundabout about 10.30am.

After the initial collision between the truck and one of the cars, the car was then redirected onto the Bruce Highway where another collision has occurred.

As a result of the second crash, the 4WD swerved across the concrete median strip into traffic, leading to a head-on collision with the fourth vehicle.

He said there had also been a cat and dog being transported in the 4WD and both were uninjured.

Sgt Rusten said as the Easter holidays approached, he urged drivers to practice caution on the road.
