It’s a vehicle that used to transport Australia’s longest serving prime minister.
Now the well-preserved Buick transports glamorous brides and grooms on their way to get hitched and teens dressed to the nines for their formal celebrations.
Hervey Bay’s Glen Jenkins, owner of Special Buick Weddings, has long had a love affair with the classic vehicles.
Nine years ago, he received a phone call from a Sydney man who was selling three Buicks in his collection.
One was formerly Prime Minister Robert Menzies’ vehicle.
While the other gentleman died before being able to send the papers confirming the origin of the vehicle, Mr Jenkins has seen it featured in official photos of the Menzies-era Buicks.
The car was back in action on September 3 when it transported Lincoln Holloway and Zoe Matthews to the Xavier Catholic College formal at The Oaks.
With formal season well underway, a variety of classic cars have been on display.
Mr Jenkins said his Buicks were popular and even though demand had slowed amid the Covid pandemic, it was great to see them being put to use.
The next school formal of the year will get underway on Friday, with Fraser Coast Anglican College to celebrate its senior students.
