Talia Jayne Jones-Ruzic faced Hervey Bay court for stealing

A magistrate has put a repeat stealing offender on the spot after her decision to steal from a pharmacy added to an appalling rap sheet.

Stealing two make-up brushes from a Hervey Bay pharmacy may seem like a relatively minor offence but for Talia Jayne Jones – Ruzic, it was almost enough to land her in the lockup.

The 26-year-old pleaded guilty in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court to stealing and contravening a direction of police.

The court heard Jones-Ruzic had entered Priceline pharmacy and taken the two brushes, wrapping them in a catalogue and placing them in her purse.

The items were worth total of $47.98.

Talia Jayne Jones-Ruzic pleaded guilty to stealing and contravening a direction of police when she appeared before Hervey Bay Magistrates Court this week.

After she was caught, she attended the police station a day late.

Despite the relatively minor nature of the offending, the court heard Jones-Ruzic had an appalling criminal history that put her at risk of spending time in prison.

“Why shouldn’t I send you to jail? Because that’s what I’m considering,” Magistrate Stephen Guttridge said.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Sonia Edwards said while it was just a general shop stealing offence, Jones-Ruzic’s history would likely see her spending time in custody if she continued offending.

Jones – Ruzic was said to have recently taken up studying.

She was sentenced to one month in prison, wholly suspended for six months, and fined $100.
