A stranded whale has died after washing up in the mouth of the Susan River on the Fraser Coast in a tragic precursor to the whale watching season.

A young humpback whale stranded at the mouth of the Susan River on the Fraser Coast has died.
Earlier on Friday, the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service responded to multiple reports of a whale stranded at River Heads.
The whale has since died of natural causes.
Rangers have taken samples and the whale will be moved to a safe location on Saturday morning.
The news comes ahead of the official launch of the 2023 whale watching season next month.
