Maryborough’s City Hall came alive on Friday night, with 22 debutantes celebrating at St Mary’s Debutante Ball alongside their friends and family.
Keeping the tradition alive, the young women dressed in white and were accompanied by partners dressed to the nines in tuxedos.
The young people, who have been preparing for the occasion for months, first did a waltz together before their families took to the dance floor with in an emotional and moving moment.
Organiser and committee member Lisa Louis said it was a special occasion not just for the young woman and their partners, but for their families.
“It’s been a very beautiful night, the kids have all done really well,” she said.
“They have been rehearsing for the last three months.
“Preparations probably started in January and so it’s all been just a progressive thing, but they’ve all delivered on the night, which is fabulous.
A total of 22 participants was fairly “middle of the road” Ms Louis said, with some years having as few as two and some as many as 60.
“It’s almost standing room only at those events,” she said.
All four schools from across Maryborough, St Mary’s College, Aldridge State High School, Maryborough State School and Riverside Christian College each had students participate in the event this year, Ms Louis said.
“It’s the first time ever that’s happened.”
Ms Louis said she hadn’t recognised some of the kids as they were so dressed up.
“They look fabulous,” she said.
