A wife has paid tribute to her beloved husband, remembering him as a “beautiful man” who would help anyone.

On Friday, September 30, Scott Ormerod lost his fight with terminal bowel cancer, about a year after receiving the fatal diagnosis.

After being told her husband had less than six months to live, Jen Ormerod cherished the moments she had left with Scott, helping him tick off the items on his bucket list.

Ms Ormerod said when they found out Scott had cancer, about three months into their relationship, his first response was “we’re getting married”.

“He was a beautiful man, who put me on a pedestal and taught me how I deserved to be treated, who always tried to help anyone in need,” she said.

Ms Ormerod said the pair met at a Coke Factory in 2009, when she was working in the kitchen and Scott was a storeman.

Mr Ormerod had also worked as an interstate truck driver for many years.

“Scott was the role model for my son growing up as his biological father had nothing to do with him,” Ms Ormerod said.

“We were house mates for many years before I let my walls down.”

In September 2021, the family received the heartbreaking news that Mr Ormerod had cancer, after fluid was found around his liver when he went for a routine hernia surgery in July.

Oncology tests revealed it was stage four terminal bowel cancer that had spread into his stomach.

The Hervey Bay family started a GoFundMe to help cover medical costs and fulfil Mr Ormerod’s final wishes.

As of October 24, 2022, the fundraiser had reached $2,285.

Along with marrying the love of his life, the dreams on his bucket list including fishing on a “big charter” and travelling.

Ms Ormerod emphasised the importance of doing bowel testing from an early age, and hopes to spread some awareness about the illness.

She described bowel cancer as one of the “top cancer killers”, but if caught early, it could help “save a life”.

A celebration of Scott’s life will be held at the Hervey Bay Hotel on Monday, October 31.
