A rugby league legend will visit Hervey Bay next month, signing copies of his much-anticipated autobiography.
In an event hosted by QBD Books, former Cronulla Sharks player and Queensland Origin legend Mat Rogers will visit Hervey Bay’s Stockland Shopping Centre on November 4 between 12pm and 1pm.
He also played rugby union at the highest level.
The book, titled A Father’s Son, tells the story of Rogers’ triumph over hardship, loss and heartache.
According to promotional material for the book, Rogers recounts his “powerful life story”.
The son of the late Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks legend and chief executive officer Steve Rogers, he played in two State of Origin series for Queensland and seven Tests for the Australian side before his switch to union in 2001.
Rogers is also well known for competing on Network Ten’s Australian Survivor, taking part in the third and fifth seasons.
Despite not winning either season, he became a fan favourite among the Survivor fanbase, being dubbed “The Godfather” for his strategic gameplay.
Rogers has also raised awareness about depression since the death of his father Steve in January 2006.
His father battled depression for three years and, while suicide was initially suspected, his death after taking alcohol and prescription drugs was ruled an accident.
The father of four is an ambassador for Movember, an initiative that encourages men to grow a moustache during November to raise funds for research into depression and prostate cancer.
