Two teens charged over alleged knife attack at Torquay

A teenager has been left with serious injuries in a shocking alleged broad daylight attack by two other teens, one aged 15, at a popular Hervey Bay park.

Two teenagers, including a 15-year-old, have been charged over a shocking alleged knife attack at a Torquay park on Sunday afternoon which left a third teenager with serious injuries.

The incident, which took place opposite the Torquay Hotel, happened at around 1pm with many witnesses at the site of the attack.

Moriel Doherty, the 19-year-old alleged attacker, faced the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on Monday morning and was remanded in custody.

“An unprovoked 18-year-old victim received severe lacerations and a shattered bone in the forearm”, Detective Senior Sergeant Mick Polit of the Hervey Bay Police Station said.

The weapon used in the attack was described to police by eyewitnesses as a machete.

Both Mr Doherty and the 15-year-old have been charged with grievous bodily harm.

Mr Doherty is next scheduled to appear in court on December 12.
