Teen pleads guilty in Rockhampton Childrens Court to car theft, break-ins

The Grinch came early for some people last year when a teen allegedly broke into their home and stole items and cars during a shocking crime spree.

A 17-year-old boy is accused of going on a crime spree the week before Christmas last year, allegedly breaking into multiple homes across Rockhampton and Capricorn Coast region, stealing valuable items and cars.

The teen, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, is also accused of breaking into a home in Rockhampton on May 1, 2024, stealing a car at night in the company of others, the Rockhampton Children’s Court heard on September 17.

He allegedly committed the 2023 offences between December 13 and 20 occurred in Rockhampton, Yeppoon, Kinka Beach, Berserker and Kawana.

This week he entered pleas of guilty to eight counts of enter dwelling and stealing, one of enter premises and commit an indictable offence along with five counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle at night, one of unlawful use of motor vehicle at night with intent to commit an indictable offence and one of unlawful use of a motor vehicle at night in company.

The teen also pleaded guilty to three counts of stealing, one count of breaching a bail condition and one count of wilful damage.

The court heard the teen allegedly stole phones, keys, cash, jewellery, identity cards, wallets, alcohol, a dashcam, torches, bags, airpods, iPad, headphones, passport, and handbags from the dwellings and premises.

He is also accused of stealing alcohol from Liquorland in Berserker along with fuel from Caltex in Parkhurst and Coles Express at Northside Plaza Rockhampton.

One of the alleged unlawful use of motor vehicle charges involved the theft of a car belonging to Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service.

As part of his bail conditions he can only leave his home with his sister or for work with a specified program, the court heard.

Magistrate Grace Kahlert ordered a presentence report be prepared and set his sentence down for October 10, where a committal hand up for three charges, including a robbery and an enter dwelling and stealing offences, will also take place.
