A “substantial number of witnesses” could be called in the committal hearing of a teenager charged with causing a deadly shed fire at Pacific Haven in 2022.
The shed fire took place on February 18, 2022, on Pacific Haven Drive, killing 50-year-old Damian Ramsey.
Caitlin Shannon-Dear of Legal Aid Queensland appeared on behalf of the teenager in Hervey Bay Childrens Court on Wednesday.
The accused was arrested in Rockhampton when they were 18 on June 24, 2024, and charged with arson, murder and burglary.
She said a conference with the teen had been cancelled by the prison, but had been rescheduled for Thursday.
Ms Shannon-Dear said a substantial amount of materials requested for disclosure had now been received.
She said counsel and herself had reviewed as much of that material as possible since it had been disclosed.
Ms Shannon-Dear said it was likely “substantial number of witnesses” would be called when a committal hearing was heard in the matter.
A number of statements were still to be obtained as well, she said.
Magistrate Trinity McGarvie said the matter would be adjourned until March 5, 2025 for committal mention.
