Shoplifting spree ends with woman in Maryborough Magistrates court

Stealing hundreds of dollars worth of beauty products and hiding from CCTV cameras has landed a woman in Maryborough court.

Stealing more than $500 from a Maryborough pharmacy has landed a woman before a magistrate.

Natasha Mccarthy, 38, pleaded guilty to stealing goods from Priceline Pharmacy in Maryborough between November 19 and 27 last year.

Police Prosecutor Angela Trevaskis said McCarty was seen on CCTV placing items into a bag before walking out of the store.

She said Mccarthy stole beauty products and personal cleaning products worth $566.68.

“She would move into different aisles and behind displays obscuring her from CCTV,” Sgt Trevaskis said.

“She does have a history of dishonesty offending … fines are in range and restitution is sought.”

Defence Lawyer Morgan Harris said his client had been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder and PTSD, which she had since medicated for, but wasn’t at them time of the offending”.

Mr Harris said Mccarthy had a history of drug offending and was seeing a psychologist for her mental health issues.

Magistrate Kurt Fowler noted Mccarthy had served time in prison for previous offences but opted not to jail her on this occasion.

Mccarthy was convicted, fined $1500 and ordered to pay $566 compensation.
