A teenager charged over a fatal shed fire at Pacific Haven has had his case mentioned in Hervey Bay Children’s Court.

The now 18-year-old, who cannot be named because he was a child at the time of the alleged offences, was charged with arson and one count each of murder and burglary on June 24 this year.

It was the culmination of a long-term police investigation into the death of 50-year-old Damien Ramsay.

About 1.35am on February 18, 2022, emergency services attended a fire in a small “donga” style structure located on Pacific Haven Drive.

The residence was completely destroyed and police found Mr Ramsay’s body inside.

Operation Uniform Appaloosa was established and involved detectives from the Hervey Bay Criminal Investigation Unit and the Homicide Investigation Unit.

The Chronicle was allowed inside the courtroom under the State Government’s new legislation which gives more transparency in Children’s Court matters.

During a court mention last month, police prosecutor Sergeant Kim Harwood said she was waiting on outstanding telecommunication reports from Telstra, Optus and Vodafone.

On Wednesday, police prosecutor Louise McConnell confirmed the outstanding reports had now been posted.

The teen did not appear in court.

Magistrate Trinity McGarvie adjourned the matter until November 20.
