Named: 11 people charged over $60m marijuana farm at Gungaloon

For the first time, the names have been revealed of 11 people arrested and charged following a police raid on a massive marijuana plantation of 11,000+ plants hidden in bushland west of Maryborough.

On November 7, 2023, Queensland Drug and Serious Crime Group detectives executed a search warrant at a property in the forestry at Gungaloon, about 26km west of Maryborough on the Fraser Coast, where they found an elaborate cannabis operation.

About 11,118 cannabis plants were allegedly located at the property, along with 515kg of dried cannabis bud.

The defendants were charged with producing dangerous drugs schedule 2 drug quantity of or exceeding schedule 3 and possessing anything used in the commission of a crime.

Thang Van Pham and Huu Hai Do were adjourned until February 13, 2024 for mention.

Van Chuong Bui, Anh Ngoc Dao, Nghia Trong Hoang, Tuan Van Nguyen and Van Thuyen Nguyen were adjourned to February 19, 2024 for mention.

Anh Quynh Luong and Minh Van Lu were adjourned until February 26, 2024.

Duy Duc Bui and Tuan Xuan Vu were adjourned to March 12, 2024.

At the time, Detective Inspector Brad Phelps said the operation had been established to target cannabis production by Vietnamese organised crime syndicates.

Inspector Phelps said the 11 alleged offenders were on student visas from Vietnam.

Those arrested were aged between 34 and 54, and some had been in Australia for a short time and others for a longer period.
