A carer who was in a coma after suffering burns to 65 per cent of his body has faced court after he was busted with cannabis during a police raid.

A burns victim was who using cannabis to self-medicate has faced Maryborough Magistrates Court.
Calvin Wayne Miller pleaded guilty to possessing dangerous drugs and possessing drug utensils when he faced court on Tuesday.
The court heard police had executed a search warrant at an address in Tinana and had located 0.5 grams of cannabis, a bong, and scales.
Miller had previous drug matters on his criminal history, the court was told.

He had been placed on probation and had terms of imprisonment, but the low level of the offending meant fines were within range, and he had been cooperative with the police.
Duty lawyer Morgan Harris said Miller used the cannabis to self-medicate.
“A number of years ago, when he was heavily intoxicated, in a self-inflicted house fire that resulted in third degree burns to almost 65 per cent of his body,” Mr Harris said.
“He was in a coma for approximately 10 days and hospitalised for approximately one month.
“He instructs from that traumatic incident he was diagnosed with PTSD.”

Miller used the cannabis to self-medicate both for that and the pain he still experienced from his injuries, Mr Harris said.
He was now a carer for an elderly gentleman, Mr Harris said.
Magistrate John Milburn said he noted the low quantity of the drugs.
Miller was fined $1000 and a conviction was recorded.
