A drug driver who committed a petrol drive-off worth $204 later failed to appear in court.
Matthew Jon Andersen pleaded guilty to stealing, failing to appear in court and drug driving when he faced Maryborough Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Balam Selvadurai said Andersen had failed to appear before Bundaberg Magistrates Court on January 29, 2025.
A warrant had been issued for his arrest, Sgt Selvadurai said.
On February 10 he was located by police near the Bruce Highway in Maryborough, he said.
In relation to the other matters, Sgt Selvadurai said Andersen had been stopped by police and returned a positive result for meth.
In regard to the stealing charge, it was in relation to a petrol drive-off to the value of $204.33, the court heard.
Duty lawyer Warren Hunter said there was no reasonable explanation regarding the failure to appear as Andersen had simply “ignored” his court date.
He said Andersen was a floor layer by occupation and was a subcontractor.
Magistrate John Milburn said there was no excuse for failing to appear before the court.
He said he considered the stealing matter to be significant due to the amount involved.
Andersen was fined $1000 and was disqualified from driving for three months.
He was ordered to pay restitution for the petrol theft.
Convictions were recorded.
