The trial of a man accused of sexually abusing and raping a child has begun in Hervey Bay District Court.
The man who cannot be named for legal reasons pleaded not guilty on Monday morning, October 16, 2023, to seven charges, including one of maintaining an unlawful relationship with a child, five counts of rape and a count of indecent treatment of children under 12 years as a carer all of which are DV offences.

The court heard the offences were allegedly committed in Point Vernon between January 2020 and November 2021, with police becoming aware of the allegations later that month.
Four witnesses are set to testify in the trial with the accused representing himself.
