A man has had his vehicle impounded by police after an alleged hooning incident on the Esplanade in Hervey Bay.
Members of the public witnessed the alleged hooning and burnouts on the Hervey Bay Esplanade on April 13 and reported it to police, along with valuable video evidence.
Joint investigations by Maryborough Highway Patrol and Hervey Bay Station identified the vehicle and driver allegedly involved, which led to the vehicle being impounded on June 26.
A 21-year-old Urraween man has been charged with one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and was given a notice to appear at the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on July 11.
Maryborough Highway Patrol Officer in Charge Josh Churchward said the joint investigation highlighted the efforts local police were taking to actively remove hoons from the streets.
“We will continue to use every investigative tool at our disposal to ensure the safety of everyone that uses Fraser Coast roads,” Sergeant Churchward said.
“This type of continued dangerous behaviour on our roads will not tolerated by the local community, and nobody wants these cars and their drivers taken off the streets more than your local police.
“We know these irresponsible acts risks the lives of the driver, passengers, other road users and pedestrians.
“Police stand with the community in their concern and are working to stop the illegal and selfish behaviour of a few individuals, even if that includes impounding vehicles.”
