An inmate who made vile phone calls to his wife from jail has found himself back before court.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty in Maryborough Magistrates Court to three counts of contravening a domestic violence order (aggravated offences).

He faced court via video link from Maryborough Correctional Centre.

Police prosecutor Sonia Edwards read passages from the phone calls into the record, with the 34-year-old repeatedly calling his partner a “c**t” and a c***sucker”.

He also called the woman a “fat dying Jesus”, adding “next time I’ll put in hospital you dying Jesus”.

In February 2025, the man called the woman five times, accusing her of drinking alcohol and making mention of transferring money to his prison account before telling the woman to “stick your money up your a**e”.

He then called her a string of other vile names and threatened to kill her before she hung up.

“(The man) continues, even while his in custody, to be not of good behaviour to the aggrieved in his calls,” she said.

“No sentence to date seems to have had had a deterring effect.”

Sgt Edwards said the man had a serious history of domestic violence, including in North Queensland.

Defence lawyer Virginia Ukpabi said the man was a father of three children.

She said he had entered early guilty pleas.

Magistrate John Milburn said he noted the man’s background and his attempt to make something of his life, along with his long-term addiction to ice.

He said while the man had expressed genuine remorse, his offending was “repeated and consistent”.

The man was given a head sentence of nine months in prison, with 15 days in presentence custody declared as time served.

The sentence was partly suspended after 15 days for an operational period of 12 months.

Convictions were recorded.
