Ex-cop a 'high risk' to former partner, refused bail by magistrate
A Hervey Bay magistrate has declared a former police officer too dangerous to release on bail after he repeatedly violated domestic violence protections meant to keep his ex-partner safe.
A former Queensland police officer has been denied bail for being a high risk of breaching a Domestic Violence Order.
The man who appeared via video link in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on Friday is charged with persistently breaching a DVO placed on him to protect his former partner.
The court heard he was charged in February 2025, with similar offences relating to the same former partner, and since July had “been showing a consistent and in fact persistent offending’.
The former police officer was arrested and jailed on Thursday night at his new work place.
His application made for bail was denied in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on Friday morning.
“I am not persuaded that there are any conditions I could put in place to reduce the risks to an acceptable level,” Magistrate Trinity McGarvie said.
The man has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance in December.
