Drugs, firearms, $45k seized in Maryborough, Hervey Bay police raids

Help from the public has helped police crack an alleged drug trafficking syndicate on the Fraser Coast.
Firearms, $45,000 in cash and meth were seized after police executed two raids across the Fraser Coast region.
Two search warrants were executed at addresses in Hervey Bay and Maryborough on December 29 and 30, 2024, where police allegedly seized more than 1.3kg of methamphetamine, three firearms, $45,000 cash and other property relating to drug and weapons offences.
A 32-year-old Scarness man has been charged with two counts of possessing dangerous drugs, two counts of unlawful possession of weapons, two counts of authority to possess explosives, and one count each of trafficking in dangerous drugs, receiving tainted property, possess utensils or pipes that had been used, offence to buy or possess medicines or hazardous poisons, and contravening order about information necessary to access information stored electronically.
He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear in Maryborough Magistrates Court on March 18.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mick Polit said police would allege the man was the leader of the syndicate and had been arrested at a John St address in Maryborough.
He said while it was a pleasing result, any time a criminal possessed a firearm it was of great concern to police.
Det Snr Sgt Polit said the public was the biggest ally police had in the fight against drugs in the community.
He said intelligence had been gathered from members of the public in relation to the 32-year-old man and he was allegedly sourcing the drugs from parts of south-east Queensland.
A 25-year-old Maryborough woman has also been charged with one count each of possession of a dangerous drug and possession of utensils or pipes that had been used.
She is due to appear in the Maryborough Magistrates Court on February 4.
A 28-year-old Petrie man has been charged with one count each of possession of a dangerous drug and obstruct police.
He is due to appear in the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on January 30.
A 33-year-old man has been charged with two counts of unlawful possession of weapons, and one count each of unlawful use of motor vehicle and contravention of domestic violence order.
He remains outstanding.
Investigations are ongoing, with further arrests and charges expected.
Det Snr Sgt Michael Polit said the arrests had resulted in significant disruption to firearm offences and the unlawful supply of dangerous drugs within the Wide Bay community.
“Wide Bay Burnett district police will continue to target illegal firearms and drug trade and those who prey on the vulnerable in our community,” Detective Senior Sergeant Polit said.
“The Queensland Police Service will continue to detect, deter and disrupt drug trafficking and supply within our community.”
