An engineering report could hold up the matter of a man accused of causing a fatal crash in Tiaro last year.
Daniel Joseph Kirkman, 41, pleaded not guilty to one count of driving without due care and attention causing death when he appeared via phone in Maryborough Magistrates Court on March 11, 2025.
His appearance was excused on Monday, May 26.
The crash, between a motorbike and a truck driven by Mr Kirkman on July 16, 2024, killed a Childers father-of-two, Steve Loveland.
Mr Loveland, a 57-year-old technician, was on his way home from working away for two weeks when the crash happened.
Mr Kirkman’s lawyer Mathai Joshi told Magistrate John Milburn a brief of evidence had been obtained by his office, although a delay in witness statements meant it had not been reviewed yet.
Mr Joshi went on to say he was still waiting for a disclosure of bodycam footage worn by police officers at the July 16 scene, and said an expert engineer report may be required depending on further discussions with Mr Kirkman.
The matter was adjourned to June 30 for a further mention, with Mr Kirkman’s bail enlarged.
