Brett David Eddy, 41, charged with manslaughter after death of Tash Raven

A driver charged with manslaughter showed no “respect” to a Hervey Bay mother after mowing her down, police have alleged as a senior detective makes a fresh plea for witnesses to come forward.

A driver charged with the manslaughter of Tash Raven at Hervey Bay has been remanded in custody as police issue a fresh plea for a missing witness and any other information.

It comes after Hervey Bay Magistrates Court heard a video taken by a passenger the night of the alleged hit and run would form part of the police objection to bail.

Police also addressed the media on Wednesday, making a fresh plea calling for anyone who saw or had dashcam showing “driving behaviour” of a silver Ford Falcon on the night of Saturday, May 25 and the early hours of Sunday, May 26 in the Urangan and Torquay areas to come forward.

Speaking to reporters in Hervey Bay, Acting Officer in Charge of the Maryborough CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Steve Watts said police had information via “multiple means” that a male teen had witnessed the alleged hit and run and officers were “really hoping that person will come forward”.

He also confirmed a passenger was receiving support for the “traumatic” event they also allegedly witnessed.

Asked whether police would allege the video captured the moment of impact, Snr Sgt Watts said “that is the theory”.

He said video and witness accounts would be “absolutely crucial” and the police investigation had not stopped at the moment alleged driver Brett David Eddy, 41, was charged.

He also extended his “deepest sympathies” to those who had known and loved the mother, community club volunteer and nail salon manager who lost her life.

“I didn’t know Nathasha personally but from what I am hearing and reading she seems like an exceptional person and it’s a great loss to the community and the Queensland Police Service grieves with you,” he said.

The case was first mentioned in court on Monday, then again on Tuesday where it was adjourned overnight.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Kim Harwood said at the time Mr Eddy would be applying for bail, but police were asking for another day to extract the video from the phone.

Sgt Harwood said police would be opposing bail and she had documents ready to submit to the court.

“I do have most of the materials that I have sought,” she said.

“The phone was very extensively damaged in the incident.”

On Wednesday morning however, there was no application for bail.

Mr Eddy appeared briefly via videolink and was remanded in custody until his next court appearance on July 25.

Specialist police in Brisbane had been involved in trying to retrieve the video off the phone, the court heard earlier this week but attempts had so far been unsuccessful.

He is also charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle, driving of a motor vehicle without a driver’s licence and driver fail to exhibit proper respect to deceased showing callous disregard for the needs of a person.

Ms Raven, 43, was on her way home from a social function when she was allegedly hit by the car about midnight Saturday on Boundary Rd in Urangan.

Police will allege Mr Eddy was travelling at high speeds before leaving the scene.

No pleas have been entered.
