Poisoned Fraser Island dingoes ate ‘human’s food’

THE Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service is continuing to investigate after six dingoes were killed on Fraser Island.

WHAT WE KNOW: 

• Every dingo presented with the same pathology that was consistent with poisoning
• The six dingoes found dead on Fraser Island have all showed signs consistent with poisoning.
• The use of 1080 bait is registered in Queensland for the control of wild dogs, feral pigs, rabbits and foxes.
• One of the animals had been buried in a shallow grave.
• Authorities have raised concerns dingoes are being baited on Fraser Island as reports emerge of six dead carcasses being found in suspicious circumstances over the course of the weekend. 

THE Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service is continuing to investigate after six dingoes were killed on Fraser Island.

"Each and every one of these dingoes presented with the same pathology that was consistent with poisoning, each one had human-sourced food in its stomach and each one was a young, healthy dog with no other signs of serious injury," Parks Minister Steven Miles said.

The Butchulla people were notified of the incident and a smoking ceremony for the dingoes has been held.
