One feared dead after Pacific Haven shed fire

Police have launched a fresh appeal to try to solve a mysterious fatal shed fire that resulted in the death of a man at Pacific Haven.

Damien Bradley Ramsay, 50, was found dead after the fire tore through the shed on Pacific Haven Drive, near Howard in the early hours of Friday morning.

Detective Acting Inspector Wade Lee told reporters on Tuesday police were seeking information, including from anyone who might have been in the area between 10am on February 17 and 2am on February 18 and those who may have CCTV or dashcam footage.

He said multiple explosions had been heard by neighbours on the night of the fire.

Det Act Insp Lee said police were still investigating Mr Ramsey’s death and the circumstances surrounding it.

“Given the nature of the incident, being a fire, there are a number of inquiries that are unresolved.

“We’re continuing to understand the pattern of life and movement around the area at the time of the incident.”

Det Act Insp Lee said the circumstances at this time were unexplained.

“Any death of this sort of nature we do consider suspicious until we can confirm otherwise.”

He said a boat and a vehicle had also been destroyed in the fire, as well as the shed.

Det Act Insp Lee said it had been a difficult scene to process.

He said the cause of the fire was still being investigated.

But electrical causes had been ruled out.

It had not been determined if the man had died of injuries resulting from the fire or by another cause.

“We’re unable to determine that at this point given the nature of the incident.

“With a fire scene the evidence is difficult to understand.”

Det Insp Lee said Mr Ramsey’s family had been cooperative and were assisting police with their investigations.

“It was a shock to them, they have suffered a loss,” he said.

A car and boat also parked near the shed were also destroyed in the blaze which broke out in the early hours of Friday morning.

Initial calls to emergency services were made about 1.30am, a spokeswoman from the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service said.

Three fire crews battled the blaze, with police and paramedics also attending the scene.
