Parents concerned after two disturbances at Riverside Christian College

A Tik Tok video appearing to show a student brandishing a knife at a Queensland private school has emerged after police were called to the same college this week over a separate scare.

A Tik Tok video showing an alleged incident with a knife at a Fraser Coast school has surfaced after police were called out to a separate disturbance at the college on Wednesday.

A concerned parent sent the video to the Fraser Coast Chronicle, showing the incident involving students from Riverside Christian College.

The video, which was taken in August, appears to show a student brandishing a knife while surrounded by other students at the school.

A spokeswoman from the Queensland Police Service said police were not involved with the August 17 incident as no criminal complaints were made.

Riverside Christian College principal Michelle Gouge said the knife seen in the video was a toy.

“The male student, who is no longer enrolled, was trying to ‘scare’ another male student with a pretend rubber toy knife after they annoyed each other in class,” she said

“It led to a minor physical altercation.

“All families have engaged with the College surrounding the incident which occurred after school and the College followed appropriate procedures in accordance with our Care and Conduct Policy.”

It comes as police were called to the college on Wednesday in relation to a different incident involving a teenager who caused a disturbance.

A parent told the Chronicle their child and other students were forced to hide under their desks amid concerns a young man was armed with a knife on site.

While police and the school confirmed a disturbance had sent the school into lockdown, there was no evidence to suggest the male was armed.

“Maryborough Child Protection Investigation Unit detectives investigated reports of a trespass at a Maryborough West school around 10.30am on Wednesday,” a spokeswoman said.

“A 15-year-old local boy was cautioned later that afternoon under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.

“There is no further information.”

Speaking to the Chronicle principal Michelle Gouge denied a knife had been involved in this week’s disturbance.

She said the teen had no reason to attend the school.

The parent who contacted the Chronicle said her child and other students hid under their desks during the scare and shared an email sent to parents after the incident.

“Today we had an event on the college which resulted in the whole school going into emergency lockdown,” the email from Ms Gouge read.

“We recently practised lockdown in the case of an event much like this.

“I can confirm the response was swift and children were safe within minutes of the call.

“The police were contacted and worked with us strategically around the incident.”
