It’s bright and colourful shop front with giant Santa and nutcracker figures is hard to miss.
The new Nutcracker Sweet Shop on Old Maryborough Road has a Christmas theme but has treat options for the whole year including this Easter weekend.
The store has been operating since March and is owned by Jenny Pavlinovic.
Working alongside her is partner Martin Gassmann.
While Ms Pavlinovic said she would like to see the store a little busier, it has been going well since it opened six weeks ago.
“Pretty good,” Ms Pavlinovic said.
“Everybody that comes, it’s all been positive comments and feedback.”
Even though the store is a Christmas wonderland, Ms Pavlinovic said locals had still been purchasing lollies for Easter.
She explained she and her partner were still in the process of setting up this venture but were no strangers to the candy industry.
“We’ve done confectionary for the last 24 years and we’re both Christmas nuts,” she said.
“And then I came up with the idea ‘Why don’t we combine the two together’ and I got a ‘No’ to begin with and then I sort of kept mentioning it and then he decided ‘Yeah it’s not a bad idea’ so hence Christmas and candy.”
The same store had operated in Canberra but this is Ms Pavlinovic’s first store in Hervey Bay.
The duo relocated to Hervey Bay a week before Christmas last year after waiting for the borders to open.
“We were going to come to Queensland but then … I just sort of thought … ‘Maybe we’ll venture up a bit higher than we were looking’ and then we both thought Hervey Bay was a good choice,” she said.
“Eventually we will have a lot more confectionery than what we’ve got now,” she said.
Alongside candy and Christmas decor, there’s also collectable bears.
“I guess this is all our favourite things in this store like we love Christmas, we’ve done confectionery for 24 years, but I also collect bears so we have a soft toy section as well,” she said.
More Christmas decor is on the way and will begin to arrive in the next few months.
“Come Christmas time, which is when I’m hoping it will really take off, we’ve pretty much got Christmas decos covered, and if people want to buy sweets or chocolates or whatever for their friends for Christmas or soft toys for the kids, we’ve got it all here.”
The Nutcracker Sweet Shop is open seven days a week from 10am to 5pm.
