THE Department of Environment and Heritage Protection has begun a review of the affects visitors cause to World Heritage-listed Fraser Island.
A Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service spokeswoman said the review would help inform the State Government to implement future policy.
"QPWS is in the preliminary stages of assessing the natural and tourism values for Fraser Island, one of Queensland's most significant national park destinations," she said.
"This process, which will continue over the next 12 months, will help to inform management decisions for Fraser Island.
"The activities will include assessments of the island's ecosystems - their current condition and trend - and of park management priorities, assets, and tourism and recreation needs."
The spokeswoman said there was no plan to cap the number of visitors to the island.
The spokeswoman said the review was part of a process to assist QPWS to "develop a better understanding of the values of national parks across the state".
