Hopeful punters gathered in venues across the Fraser Coast on Tuesday to watch the race that stops the nation.
Despite the rain, crowds dressed to the nines for the 2022 Melbourne Cup celebrations, with some wearing custom made fascinators.
At The Beach House Hotel’s luncheon, Samuel Dowdeswell won a “Best Dressed” award, sporting a purple tie to match his hair.
“I love mohawks because they’re not in fashion,” Mr Dowdeswell said.
“I was able to learn to express myself through my hair.”
Darelle Baker also won “Best Dressed” for the ladies fashion, with Ray and Janine Heathwood taking home the same award for the couples.
Lorrin Bosel’s headpiece was custom made to match her outfit, which scored her “Best Fascinator” at the race day celebrations.
Meanwhile at the Hervey Bay RSL, tickets sold out weeks ago for Melbourne Cup lunch.
“We get lots of regulars who come every year, they’ve been coming for years and years, which is fantastic - it’s always a great day out,” club marketing manager Kellie Robinson said.
In Maryborough, the Carriers Arms Hotel was also one of the best places to watch the Melbourne Cup.
Dozens turned out in their finery for the hotel’s annual luncheon, which this year featured a buffet.
Alea Hartig and Khamla Mott, who both dressed up for the Cup, said they were having a ball.
