The boss of a business where a beloved boatie worked before he was found dead after failing to return from a fishing trip on the weekend, has paid tribute to his colleague and mate.
Darryn Kimlin, 42, left the Lamington Bridge Boat Ramp about 10am on Saturday and was expected to return from a solo fishing trip about noon on Sunday but never came home.
He had last contacted family about 3.50pm on Saturday and indicated he was fishing in the mouth of the Mary River at Beaver Rock.
His unmanned five-meter fibre glass half cab boat named Tamarumma, was recovered on Monday and by Tuesday, the worst had been confirmed.
On Tuesday, Lyons Diesel Maintenance posted on Facebook about the sad loss.
“It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share the sad news of Darryn’s passing,” the post read.
“Darryn was not just one of our mechanics but our family.
“One of a kind, salt of the earth, just downright awesome bloke.
“A fierce protectiveness for those he loved and worked alongside.
“He is going to be missed more than words could ever say.
“Our workshop will be closed for the remainder of today to allow us to start to come to terms with the loss of Darryn.
“Again, we would like to thank everyone for their continued support and understanding.
“Our prayers, thoughts and condolences are going out to Cass, Tess and Darryn’s family at this saddest of times.”
